First Dog Run – Tompkins Square ParkĪs its name suggests, this is New York City’s first dog run. Lily has Dash go to a mochi making class with a bunch of older women. Beer comes in pairs and is priced at $5.50. They only serve their own brews of light and dark beer. The thing that Dash and Lily got wrong about McSorley’s is that they don’t serve cocktails. They serve two types of beers, a light and a dark, and the floor is covered with sawdust. McSorley’s is an institution and a fun place to grab a beer. It was another 16 years before a women’s bathroom was installed. This is based on the fact that women weren’t allowed in McSorley’s until 1970. Basil E tells Lily a story about how she went to McSorely’s before they allowed women in. The display lights up on Thanksgiving and stays up until January 6th each year. She first decorated her home in 1986 as a way of honoring her mother after she passed away. This is the home of Lucy Spata, the woman who started the Dyker Heights tradition of overly decorated homes during the holiday season. ![]() The “Nutcracker House” is located at 1152 84th Street. This Brooklyn neighborhood earns the nickname “Dyker Lights” during the holiday season since residents go all out with decorating their homes with lights and holiday decorations. Dash and Boomer go here to try and use the red boot to track down info on Lily. This photo is of a similar holiday market in Bryant Park. Lily leaves the notebook there for Dash to find. This massive bronze statue is on the far east side of Central Park near 76th Street and 5th Avenue. The Alice in Wonderland Statue in Central Park Lily sends Dash here to have Christmas cookies and cannoli. When I hear the words “cannoli” and “NYC” I instantly think of Ferrara Bakery in Little Italy. It’s worth checking out even if you don’t need to catch a train. Grand Central Station has stunning Beaux-Arts interior architecture and a large food hall with 35 restaurants. Grand Central Stationĭash sends Lily to Grand Central Station telling her to enjoy the heart of New York without the crush of people moments before the first train of the day. She is handed a pretzel absolutely covered in salt. Lily is instructed to go here and “Lot’s wife”. To get to Bethesda Terrace, enter the park at 72nd Street and walk west. Lily sends Dash here to stand in silence next to her street performer cousin. Washington Square ParkĪnother location where Lily’s caroling group sings. Lily sends Dash here and dares him to steal Santa’s hat. Dash and Lily filmed at the East Village location. Two Boots has locations in the East Village, West Village, Williamsburg, and Park Slope. For example, The Dude is a Cajun bacon cheeseburger pie with ground beef, andouille, tasso ham, cheddar, and mozzarella. Two Boots is known for uniquely named pizzas with creative topping combinations. Back then, and back when I lived in NYC, Two Boots was part movie rental shop and part pizza place. Two Boots! You might remember this pizza place from The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. It’s one of the most iconic bookstores in NYC and the staff has given me great book recommendations in the past. If you are in the East Village, it is worth taking the time to stop by The Stand. The Strand is where the story of Dash and Lily begins – and the store gets so much screentime that it’s practically a character. This East Village bookstore boasts having “18 miles of books”.
